‘A haunting and melodically beautiful album’ SUNDAY TIMES
It’s been two years in the pipeline but finally the third album by Oddfellow’s Casino is coming out on release in early January 2012. The artwork has been created by Stewart Armstrong and the album produced by Andrew Philips of Grasscut (Ninja Tunes). The first single, Winter in a Strange Town had its first play on BBC6 last week and we’ve got two new videos you can watch here: www.oddfellowscasino.com/video
The album launch party will be on February 23rd at the Hanbury Ballroom in Brighton. See calendar for more information.

On a different note, I’ll be presenting a documentary about the role of clapping in music on Friday, Feb 24th, 8.20pm or thereabouts, on Radio 3 which includes an interview with the minimalist composer Steve Reich and apple crumble-lover and musician Lorraine Bowen!

Radio 3′s Haunted Moustache has just been nominated by the BBC for a Sony Award in May. If it wins the doctor has promised to buy everyone in the universe a pint of shandy.

The Catalyst Club is in full swing. Regular nights are now running in Brighton’s Latest Music Bar and London’s Last Tuesday Society in Hackney every month. See Catalyst Club website for details and Dr Bramwell’s calendar for dates.

Oddfellows Casino are finally launching their fourth release this autumn with ‘the Raven’s Empire’ a collection of songs on the themes of death and hauntings. Cheery stuff.
Radio 3′s Haunted Moustache was selected for an Italia Prix award in July 2010 and is now available on www.speechification.com where it can be downloaded as a podcast. For those who don’t know it, it speechification is a brilliant site for lovers of spoken word radio. It’s a sort of round up of the best stuff going on in world with an obvious bias towards radio 4!

SingalongaWickerman! is all set up for a tour of the UK for autumn. Dates for the Green Man pub near Dumfries, the Bath film festival, Lowry in Manchester, and Picture House cinemas in Oxford, Exeter, LIverpool and Birmingham will be going up shortly.

The Catalyst Club has taken up a residency at the Last Tuesday Society in Hackney and will be taking guest speakers every second Friday of the month to perform in this unique and creepy venue. I will be doing a talk on Utopia (no surprise) on November 12th and Sarah Angliss (aka Space Dog) on December 10th.

Thanks to the mad genius of producer Sara Jane Hall, Radio 3′s version of the Haunted Moustache has ben nominated for a coveted Italia Prix Award this summer 2010. We have no idea what category it has been chosen for. We can only presume, ‘best facial hair feature’.
The program included the wheezy music of the doctor’s band Oddfellows Casino, the recording of a Wiccan priest in Shoreham, a seance in Hackney and an ayahuasca shaman in..well….the covered market by the Level. It was aired Saturday 27th March 11pm but with the help of a giant magnet and a time machine can be heard again by clicking on the Haunted Tash banner on the main page!

The doctor’s new one-man show, the Number Nine Bus to Utopia (directed by Emma Kilbey and her dog, Ronnie Barker), will be making its debut at the Earth Ship in Stanmer Park for four nights this year during Brighton festival, 7th, 8th, 21st, 22nd May. 7.30pm.

ABOUT THE SHOW
Simply executed with just a table, chair, coat-stand and hot tub (!) the No 9 Bus to Utopia takes the audience on a roller-coaster ride through the history and philosophy of some of the West’s most fantastical communities combined with Bramwell’s own autobiographical adventures and insights into how, practically, we could all bring a greater sense of community back to our city lives.

The No 9 Bus to Utopia combines Bramwell’s trademark styles of theatre, comedy, anecdote and lecture-style slide shows, and recalls the storytelling styles of such performers as Ken Campbell, Claire Dowie and Spalding Gray.
The show ends with the unveiling of Bramwell’s own plans for turning Brighton into his own utopia and a Q&A that could turn messy…

The Number Nine bus to Utopia follows on the success of The Haunted Moustache, a one-man storytelling theatre show which premièred at the Brighton Festival in 2008. and won two Fringe Festival Awards and a BBC radio 3 commission.
