Set up in 2004 the Catalyst Club pays tribute to French salons, WI and gentlemen's clubs. On the night three guest speakers take to the lectern to talk for 15 minutes on subjects close to their heart. 

Since its inception the Catalyst Club has seen over 500 talks on subjects ranging from Ulysses to tinned meat.

In keeping with David's philosophy, door price is inexpensive and the stage open to anyone with a passion to share.

In 2016 The Catalyst Club collaborated with BBC Radio 4's Archive on Four to make a program exploring what it takes to be a public speaker. Guests included Dan Schreiber (No Such Thing As The News), Graham Duff (I Deal) and Sylvester McCoy.  You can listen to it here:

In 2014 David set up The Odditorium as a spoken festival tent with talks from the fringes of culture. 

It runs each year at Wilderness Festival and Brighton Festival. 

It has also featured at Port Eliot Festival and Secret Garden Party.

Guest speakers have included Steve Colgan (QI elf), Robert Llewellyn (Red Dwarf), Dunstan Bruce (Chumbawamba), Daisy Asquith (filmmaker), Marcus O'Dair (Robert Wyatt biographer), John Higgs (KLF author), Daisy Campbell (daughter of Ken Campbell).

In 2015 Odditorium became a fortnightly podcast, showcasing the best of the Catalyst Club and Odditorium tent. 


David has twice hosted TEDx Brighton, curating content and supporting speakers for the themes Pass it On and Generation Gap.

He spoke at TEDx Brighton 2011 and TEDx Hackney 2012.
